A Legacy of Influence. A Future of Growth. A Community for All.
About real tennis
“Fast and demanding like lawn tennis, tactical like chess, and steeped in history like no other sport.”
Real Tennis, the historic predecessor of modern lawn tennis, is played on distinctive courts with handmade balls and wooden racquets that retain their unique, asymmetric shapes. Each court has its own personality, adding an architectural and strategic dimension unmatched in other sports.
The game is renowned for its royal lineage – from Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII at Hampton Court to HRH Duke of Edinburgh, a modern-day enthusiast who has played at every court in the world and is Patron of the T&RA and Royal Tennis Court. With a legacy dating back to the 14th Century, Real Tennis commands respect, curiosity, and admiration from its players and followers.
Unique sport. Exclusive opportunity.
Real Tennis – the original racquet sport – is steeped in tradition, strategy, and athleticism. It’s a sport like no other, played by a discerning and influential community. This is a rare chance to align with legacy and growing international appeal at an accessible investment level.
The Women’s Game: tradition meets growth
Women have been playing Real Tennis for over 500 years, and today the sport is thriving. Since the formation of the LRTA in 1981, female participation has surged, with over 300 members regularly competing at clubs across the UK and beyond.
Support the next generation
The LRTA’s Junior Development Programme is nurturing a new generation of players, providing bursaries, coaching, and tournament opportunities for young women. Many are now competing on the international stage – a testament to the success of grassroots development.
Demographics & Reach
Real Tennis appeals to a broad, influential demographic – from top-level professionals and business leaders to elite sports enthusiasts. Players range in age from 8 to 90+, united by a shared love of sport, tradition, competition, and intellectual challenge.
With 27 courts across the UK – and more being built or restored – the sport is experiencing a quiet renaissance. Schools and universities near new courts are bringing fresh energy and youth into the game.
Media & Visibility
Real Tennis is gaining momentum in media circles. HRH, Duke of Edinburgh’s global court tour brought significant press coverage, and the sport regularly features in Country Life, The Field, The Times, The Telegraph, sports and local media.
Clubs have active social media profiles and regularly livestream events, reaching audiences far beyond the court.
